A few weeks ago, the Community Give Box faced an unfortunate incident – a pram was stolen from our premises. Our team were upset by this action – anyone that knows about the work we do knows that we give away so many essential items to people in need and if someone came to us and told us about their situation, it would most likely have been given to them for free.

However, this setback was soon overshadowed by the generosity of the local community.

After the incident, the shop received several heartwarming donations. One of these donations, another pram, we were able to give to a mother from Iraq, through Wakefield District City of Sanctuary. The gift provided much-needed relief and support to the mother and her four-week-old baby.

Another donation, a Moses basket, was gratefully accepted by Stepping Stones Baby Bank, an organisation dedicated to helping families in need across the Wakefield area.

But the kindness didn’t stop there. A Fisher Price Jumperoo and a travel cot were also donated, and their proceeds from being sold in the shop allowed us to purchase single and double duvets and pillows. These essential items were then distributed to two families facing challenging circumstances, including one family escaping a domestic violence situation.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and donated items in the last few weeks and showed us how kind and generous our community is.
