Unsung Heroes Awards

Who will you nominate as your hero?

Ordinary people doing extraordinary things

As we look forward to resuming a more “normal” existence following the unprecedented effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, you are invited to nominate your hero for this year’s Unsung Heroes Awards.

Who is the special someone in your community that goes that extra mile? The person who volunteers to help make other people’s lives that bit better, or simply puts a smile on people’s faces by bringing the community together.

For the fifth year we shall be celebrating the outstanding contributions made by volunteers from across the Wakefield District. They represent a hidden army that, put simply, changes people’s lives on a daily basis within their local communities. They may have run/organised activities or supported older people and families as we all came to terms with a different way of living.  This could include areas such as sport and culture, disability or mental health, illness or bereavement, befriending or caring, delivering medicines or food parcels but they are not exclusive.  If you know of someone involved in another activity area, then please nominate them.

Please make a nomination today!

All of the winning nominees are invited to the 2021 Unsung Heroes Awards, at Cedar Court Hotel, Friday 1st October. The event, which is hosted by TV personality Harry Gration, celebrates the individual achievements of the nominees through a series of short films.

The main People’s Choice winner will be chosen by Wakefield Express readers. Each award is a celebration and acknowledges the contribution of those who are rarely, if ever, in the limelight; people who give their time freely.

Please nominate your 2021 Unsung Hero below. The deadline for nominations is Friday 4th June. Thank you.
