Make a Difference in Wakefield: Volunteer with Us

Are you looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your local community and make a real difference in people’s lives? Look no further than volunteering with Wakefield’s best-kept secret – the Community Foundation Wakefield District. We provide essential support to those in need without judgment or red tape.

Whether you’re sorting donations, assisting customers, or helping to create care packages, your time and effort will make a huge difference in people’s lives.

Why should you volunteer with us?

  • We offer direct, no-questions-asked assistance to those in crisis, unlike many other organisations with lengthy application processes. As a volunteer, you’ll see the immediate impact of your efforts on local people’s lives.
  • From providing warm coats to those facing a cold winter to offering smart interview clothing for job seekers, our charity shop, The Community Give Box, helps people from all walks of life. Your work will help individuals in various situations, giving you a broad perspective on community needs.
  • We believe in helping without judgment. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a team that offers support to anyone who needs it, regardless of their background or circumstances. Knowing that your efforts directly contribute to improving someone’s life situation can bring immense personal satisfaction and a sense of purpose.
  • The Community Give Box is more than just a charity shop. We collect donations and sell these pre-loved goods, but our shop actually gives away more than it sells. This is how we can help people in the most direct way possible.
  • Many of the people we help are starting over. By volunteering, you’ll play a crucial role in providing household items and care packages that help individuals and families get back on their feet.
  • Volunteering at The Community Give Box offers opportunities to develop retail skills, customer service experience, and organisational abilities.
  • You’ll meet like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference. As Wakefield’s best-kept secret, you’ll be joining a dedicated team working tirelessly to support those in need.
  • Whether you can offer a few hours a week or more, we appreciate all levels of commitment from our volunteers.

The Community Foundation Wakefield District is more than just a charity – it’s a lifeline for many in our community. By volunteering with us, you’re providing support to people when they need it the most.

Volunteers Week – Susan Parker

Volunteer Week ended on the 7th of June, but we’re still going to celebrate another one of our fantastic volunteers, Susan Parker.

Susan chose to volunteer at The Community Give Box because she was friends with someone who was a volunteer at the shop and asked if they needed any more help.

She loves interacting with the public and the customers and she says the staff and people who come in are very nice and friendly.

Thank you for volunteering with us Susan!

Volunteers Week – Karen Trickett

Continuing our celebration of our amazing volunteers, we have Karen Trickett.

Karen chose to volunteer at The Community Give Box as it is local to where she lives and the proceeds go to local residents. Karen also appreciates that the flexible hours fit around her other commitments.

She enjoys volunteering at The Give Box as she feels useful in helping the community of Wakefield. Karen has also enjoyed learning new skills such as working on and using the till, plus the retail experience she has gained by volunteering at our charity shop.

Karen would recommend volunteering at The Give Box as ‘it is a fantastic place to pick up new skills and gain experience in a retail environment’.

Karen saw the chance to volunteer at the charity shop on Facebook, a post asking for volunteers caught her eye and she answered the call.

Volunteers Week – Susan Cross

We’re celebrating another one of our great volunteers today, Susan Cross.

Susan chose to volunteer at The Community Give Box because it helps people in the Wakefield District. Susan had previously donated to The Give Box so she knew what it did and how it helped.

The thing that Susan enjoys the most about volunteering in The Give Box is meeting the people that come into the charity shop, along with this, she also feels that she is helping people herself.

Susan would definitely recommend volunteering at The Community Give Box and volunteering in general, ‘You get to meet plenty of different people, and the staff are very friendly and so helpful’.

We asked how Susan found out about the volunteering opportunity at our shop, she simply saw an appeal on our Twitter where we asked for volunteers.

Susan passed on having her photo on social media and the website, but we can’t thank Susan enough for volunteering with us!

Volunteers Week – Janet McGenn

Volunteer Week continues as we celebrate another one of our fantastic volunteers, Janet McGenn.

Janet chose to volunteer in The Community Give Box when she came to deliver some goods and met with Julia, one of the shop managers. Janet says that Julia was so welcoming that it was an ‘immediate done deal’.

What does Janet enjoy most about volunteering at The Give Box? ‘The managers, volunteers but most importantly the customers, and interacting with the customers’.

Janet highly recommends volunteering at The Give Box, stating that ‘It’s an absolutely wonderful sociable atmosphere’

Thank you for volunteering with us Janet!

Volunteers Week – Gary O’Brien

This Volunteers Week we are celebrating our wonderful volunteers in The Community Give Box, today we have Gary.

Gary chose to volunteer at The Give Box because he likes working in retail, he enjoys working at our charity shop because of how nice and generous the staff are and he loves a good chat with the customers who come in, making the shop feel so much more friendly.

The Community Give Box is highly recommended from Gary as a good place to volunteer, with a good set of people to work with who make the experience that much more enjoyable.

Gary chose to volunteer at The Give Box as he simply saw a sign in the window asking for volunteers, but the welcome he received was one of the reasons he chose to stay.
